It has been a difficult two years, so it is no wonder that this year more than ever families want to celebrate a memorable and magical Christmas.
Some might think Christmas styling and decorating is the same every year, but there are emerging trends that can add some extra sparkle to your décor. Our tips will help you bring the Christmas cheer into your home through effortless decorating, which will create the perfect backdrop for gathering and celebrating this festive season.
The Main Event – The Christmas Tree
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a beautiful tree, there are so many styles and price points that there is something for everyone. Choices of Christmas trees are abundant, from real trees to real touch trees, to sparse looking, or snow covered, pre lit or plain.
This year we are big fans of the Christmas trees available at Target, which are beautiful and affordable. These are typically easy to assemble and some come pre lit without the need for additional lights. If you prefer a premium option that will last a lifetime or a fuller style tree, we recommend paying a visit to Alfresco Emporium or Balsam Hill who both have a stunning selection of larger more voluptuous trees worth investing in.
Decorations and Ornaments
A gorgeous tree is usually ordained with lovely decorations or ornaments, and as with Christmas tree styles, ornaments are just as varied. A traditional colour palette of red, gold and silver is always timeless, and a much loved favourite of our team. A more modern home pairs well with the popular Nordic look marked by minimal décor, bead garland and handmade wood ornaments.
Trending this year are the more glamorous metallic adorned trees with bronze and brass tones and an abundance of ribbon and trimmings. Black is also a popular accent colour this year and so is a simple white and silver combination that creates a winter wonderland vibe. You may not even wish to dress your tree based on trends and prefer to display a mix of collected and cherished sentimental ornaments.
Tree lights are something to certainly consider. Will it be cool white, warm white or coloured lights for a more nostalgic look? All these combinations work well. We suggest picking a style that reflects you and your family for the best impact. Our favourite stores to grab beautiful decorations are David Jones, Pottery Barn and Adairs.
The Christmas Tablescape
One of the highlights of any Christmas is the Christmas feast! Family breakfast, lunch or dinner, whatever your tradition, having a beautifully styled table will always set the tone. A tablescape can be as simple as a run of garland and a few candle votives, or it can be an elaborate set up that mirrors the style of your tree.
Our tips for a magical table are in the small details. Add place cards so everyone feels welcome, decadent napkins and simple under plate chargers – charger plates can dress up any crockery set and adds a sense of occasion to the meal
The Grand Entrance
Nothing says welcome like a beautiful Christmas wreath at your front door, and like Christmas trees, the style you opt for will depend on your overall decorating theme. It could be a beautiful native wreath, a flocked snowy wreath, a glittery wreath, or simple greenery.
Real or faux they make a statement and add that festive touch to your home’s entry. This year my favourite wreaths can be found at Tara Dennis Store and The Christmas Cart.
